Giolcaireacht sa Ghairdín

Leabhar pictiúr nua a fhoilseoidh LeabhairComhar go luath is ea Giolcaireacht sa Ghairdín. Is toradh é ar chomhpháirtíocht idir Marie Whelton (Údar) agus Frank Endersby (Maisitheoir). Insíonn an leabhar scéal Mhaigí – cág cosdearg – a bhaineann taitneamh as giolcaireacht a dhéanamh lena cairde i ngairdín Mhamó gar don fharraige…

Tá sé d’aidhm ag Giolcaireacht sa Ghairdín ceann de na héin is tarraingtí in Éirinn a chur os comhair leanaí agus feasacht agus plé i nGaeilge a spreagadh ina measc faoi thréithe an éin. Chuige sin, ag deireadh an leabhair tá gluais, comhad fíricí faoin gcág cosdearg agus roinnt gníomhaíochtaí do pháistí.

Bheadh Giolcaireacht sa Ghairdín oiriúnach do mhúineadh gnéithe den imshaol nádúrtha (mar chuid d’Oideachas Sóisialta, Imshaoil agus Eolaíochta) do na ranganna sóisearacha i mbunscoil Lán-Ghaeilge nó chun tacú le FCÁT (Foghlaim Comhtháite Ábhar agus Teangacha) i mbunscoil Lán-Bhéarla. D’fhéadfaí é a chur ar fáil i leabhragáin scoile don léitheoireacht neamhspleách nó d’fhéadfadh tuismitheoirí é a léamh os ard sa bhaile do pháistí níos óige.

Giolcaireacht sa Ghairdín is a new picture book which will soon be published by LeabhairComhar. It is the fruit of a collaboration between Marie Whelton (Author) and Frank Endersby (Illustrator). The picture book tells the story of Maigí – a red-billed chough – who loves to chatter with her friends in Mamó’s seaside garden…

The aim of Giolcaireacht sa Ghairdín is to introduce children to one of Ireland’s most charismatic birds and to promote awareness and discussion in Irish about its traits. To that end, at the back of the book there is a glossary, some factual information about the red-billed chough and some activities for children.

Giolcaireacht sa Ghairdín would be suitable for teaching aspects of the natural environment (as part of Social, Environmental and Scientific Education) to junior classes in an Irish-Medium Primary School or to support CLIL (Content and Integrated Language Learning) in an English-Medium Primary School. It could be made available in school libraries for independent reading or it could be read aloud by parents to younger children in the home.
